Hackbraten German Meatloaf

Total Time: 1 hr 15 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onions (divided)
  • 2 slices bread, trimmed and diced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 3/4 lb ground beef
  • 3/4 lb ground lamb
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 3/4 cup hot beef broth

Recipe

  • 1 melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a skillet; saute half the onions 5 minutes.
  • 2 mix in the diced bread and parsley; saute 2 minutes.
  • 3 combine this mixture with the beef, lamb, egg, salt, and pepper.
  • 4 mix well and shape into a loaf; sprinkle with the bread crumbs.
  • 5 melt the remaining butter in a baking pan.
  • 6 place the loaf in it and add the broth and remaining onions.
  • 7 bake in a 375°f.
  • 8 oven 1 1/4 hours, basting frequently.
