Easy Peasy Shepherd's Pie

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 5 lbs potatoes, washed and peeled
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup milk (or as much as needed to make creamy mashed potatoes)
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 1/8 cup worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese
  • salt
  • pepper
  • garlic powder

Recipe

  • 1 cut the potatoes in chunks and boil until tender; reserve half of the chunks and mash the rest with a little butter and milk.
  • 2 while the potatoes are cooking, cook ground beef and onions over medium-medium high heat.
  • 3 when the meat is cooked, drain the fat.
  • 4 add the liquid smoke, worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and garlic powder (to taste).
  • 5 take some of the potato chunks and make a bed of them in a buttered casserole dish.
  • 6 spread the ground beef mixture over the top of the potatoes.
  • 7 spread mashed potatoes on top of the ground beef.
  • 8 cover with cheese and sprinkle with parsley flakes; bake for 10 minutes.
